Developers give away full licenses for paid PC software for a day or a few days as promotion. Most come with one condition: you must install and register on the day of the giveaway. Check what is free right now below.
These are not limited-time offers. They are free by default — either open source, or a free edition the developer officially provides. Every entry links straight to the official download page, and installing at any time costs nothing.
All entries link to official sources · For student and education offers see the student perks page
Giveaways usually run 24 hours (GOTD) or a few days (SharewareOnSale). Once the window closes you cannot register even if you already downloaded the file. Install and register right away.
Under most giveaway terms the license disappears if you reformat or reinstall, and updates are not provided. You keep the version you received; upgrades are a separate purchase.
Many giveaways now grant 6-month to 1-year licenses rather than perpetual ones. Check the license terms (Lifetime or 1-year) on the giveaway page before claiming. Personal-use licenses that exclude commercial use are the norm.
Some antivirus products flag the GOTD wrapper installer, which exists to enforce same-day registration. Files from the official site are generally safe, but skipping a giveaway you are unsure about is always an option.
